GLEE
Okay. That's it. I can no longer pretend to myself that this is cute, fluffy fun. This show, beyond any shadow of a doubt, utterly demonizes and vilifies women. There is not one major female character (and damn few minor ones) who is not somehow manipulating a hapless, well-intentioned and clueless male. I like singing. I too, have long awaiting a singing show, but gals, c'mon!!! Open your eyes, here. This is not harmless. EDIT: Okay, the few women who are supposed to be "good guys" just inadvertently manipulate men and are, incidentally, both bat-shit crazy. (Heh... I bet most of my flist doesn't even watch it. *pets flist*) Current Mood: angry | | Friday, November 13th, 2009 | | 9:04 am |

Hetalia
So, yeah... jedishampoo and I watched Hetalia, finally. It wasn't what I expected. It was... cute. Really, really, really, really cute. It should probably also be offensive on a lot of levels, but just kind of isn't, because of all the rampant cute. (Of course, I'm not Italian... and I'm only half Canadian). I don't know how many, if any, of the folks on my friends list are enjoying this anime. Those of you that are, could you link me to any and all fanworks that you find worthwhile? (Especially those with a strong emphasis on the cute and the chibis). Also, is there just the anime, or is there other source material. If there is, where can I find it? I IS TEH SEX Observe as I eat a free sandwich left over from a meeting: Disassemble sandwich and reconstruct, applying mustard as needed. Hold sandwich to mouth. Attempt to whisk away a stray hair that is falling in my face and coat my nose with mustard in the process. Simultaneously bite more sandwich than I can chew and snort in surprise at mustard on face. Choke on sandwich. End up covered in mustard with lunch meat on my lap and lettuce up my nose. I'm alone in the publications office, but jeesus. Why am I still single again??? Book Meme 1. Pick 10 of your favorite books or series. 2. Post the first sentence of each book. (If one sentence seems too short, post two or three!) 3. Let everyone try to guess the titles and authors of your books.I started to look at one other person’s entry on this meme and saw a book I was going to use almost immediately. I’m not looking at anymore until I’ve done mine, because I fear I won’t have any left to use. I’m leaving out quite a few of my favorite books because too many of them have instantly recognizable first lines (Tale of Two Cities, Pride and Predjudice) or mention their identifiable characters (Lord of the Rings). So these are books I really like and one of them, in my opinion, has the best first line of any book ever!! (extra points for guessing which one!) First lines under the cut: ( Read more... )I hope folks will give these a shot, in spite of my being spotty about posting and responding lately!! SOME CONFUSION ABOUT GAIDEN...
This is the J-List description for the new 2010 Gaiden calendar. Continuing with the original cast from Saiyuki Reload, this story of bishounen style samurai with a slight mix of yaoi thrown in for good measure, the adventures continue. A great calendar for all fans of this samurai and swords show as it has great action and character illustrations. This is A2 (59.4cm x 42.0cm or 23 1/2" x 16 1/2") sized with 7 sheets. Ummm. Okaaaay. Fic: Things We Can't Untie, Part I (of III) Title: Things We Can't UntieAuthor: sharpeslass Rating: NC-17 Pairing: Sanzo/Lirin (with a little Hakkai/Gojyo) Summary: Ireland, 1977. Prompt: A distressed spirit attaches itself to a reluctant psychic. About 20,000 words. Warnings: Sanzo language, sex and mild violence. This is a little hard on the Catholic Church. If that seems like something that is going to bother you, I'd skip this one. Author's notes: AU, for ditch_gospel in the 7thnight_smut exchange. This was the most difficult thing I’ve had to write to date and also the longest. I may be wrong, but now, with some time and perspective between me and its (hellish) writing, I also think it is one of my best. Thank you so much to my beta of glory, jedishampoo, who, several times, talked me off the cliff of despair and listened to my bitching and always, always, gave me support and encouragement. Thank you to ditch_gospel, for coming up with an amazing and inspiring prompt and pairing, and thank you to the Merciful Goddess herself, rroselavy, for believing I was up to the challenge, even though I wasn’t sure myself. And thank you most of all to all of the fabulous participants and readers who gave this one a chance in spite of the crazy-ass pairing! I have never met such a generous and mad-talented group of women in my life. I love you all! Your stories were amazing this year (and I still have some to read, curse my slow readin’ heart!). If you haven’t tried it yet, and you’ve liked my other stuff, please give it a shot – no one has been squicked so far!! (Okay, one person - sorry ladylotusmoon!) Feline Incontinence
My 18 year old cat has started to poo downstairs. I added a small litter box, thinking she was perhaps too old to make it all the way up to my bathroom when nature called, but this a.m. she ignored it and left us a present not five feet from the new box. Suggestions?? (Fortunately, the downstairs is not carpeted, and I could probably live with this. But dear Jedi may die of gross if the situation is not rectified). Y-Con
I know many of you are going this year, but am not certain exactly who and would like a list for my own nefarious purposes. Please drop a comment here letting me know if you will be in attendance at Y-con this year. (two months to go, kids!!!) Current Mood: excited | | Thursday, August 27th, 2009 | | 2:13 pm |
Gifts, Fics, and a Wonderful Community
The sweet and lovely lechymonk send me a beautiful Ouran High School Host Club picture book just apropos of nothing. She ran across it in her travels and was kind enough to think of me and my Kyouya obsession. It is utterly lovely and was entirely unexpected and really made my day/week/possibly month. Thank you so much darling. That was really sweet!! ♥ (Once I recover from 7th night burn out, I can write you a fic if you like? Any requests? I can do anything except 393!) The very talented (and also sweet and lovely) clytemnaestra, in keeping with the Ouran theme, wrote me an awesome and smokin' hot Kyouya/Tamaki fic. It is yummy and wonderful and I love it and her and if you like OHSHC then definitely check it out, because it is really, really hard to find good smut in that fandom. (I ♥ you dear!) Here is a linky: http://brainfuneral.livejournal.com/17860.htmlAdditionally, the 7th night fics are up and my anonymous author wrote me a lovely Hakkai/Sanzo AU, set in Ancient Rome, (which is also one of my obsessions). It is a great Yaoi fic about a Roman patrician and his lovely (and intelligent) dark-eyed slave. you can find it here: http://community.livejournal.com/7thnight_smut/55583.htmlI've not worked my way through all of the stories posted yet, but one of my favorites so far, outside of my request, is: The Lost City of Patiti and the Legendary Golden PhallusAn utterly mind-blowingly fun, funny, hot and delicious-in-every-way, 58 archeology romp in which the jungles of Peru are, to borrow a line from the story, "certainly queer this time of year." This is the best comic AU fic I have EVER read in my life. Sign up and read it. It is worth the price of admission (free, actually) and should absolutely be turned into a ongoing series. Find it here: http://community.livejournal.com/7thnight_smut/44084.htmlThere are so many excellent fics on there that I'm not going to rec all my favorites, but this one was so perfect that it had to be shared with the world (or at least my flist). To those of you who don't know Saiyuki - It don't matter. You'll enjoy this one anyway (at least if you aren't a straight dude) so read it!!! *edited to add serial comma Current Mood: drained | | Thursday, August 20th, 2009 | | 2:47 pm |
Five Questions Meme 7veilsphaedra was kind enough to ask me these five questions: ( Read more... )The Way the Meme Works: If you want me to ask you five questions, let me know. JUST NO
There is a young woman in our office. Today, she is wearing tight black leggings with black high heels and a form fitting grey tank top. She works out two hours a day and does bikram yoga. She is tiny and fit and hasn’t an ounce of fat on her. This is Las Vegas for a start and I firmly believe in self expression through dress. So, just what is the problem, you ask? She is eight months pregnant. She looks like a street walker just pushing that maternity leave back to the last possible second or something from an outré retelling of “Grease” in which Sandy gets knocked up midway through the final high school semester. It is making my soul hurt and, frankly, I worry she may be cutting off blood flow to the unborn infant in her distended, and extremely on-display, belly. I am not the fashion police but sometimes, God dammit, I want to be. That is all. Current Mood: distressed | | Tuesday, August 4th, 2009 | | 7:36 am |
Back in the Land of the Not-Writing
Sorry to everyone I owe reviews and e-mails to. I have been in writing hell. But I have now finished my 7th Night fic *whew* I didn't think I was gonna make it guys! Most of all HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO lauand!!! I hope you had a great day, because you are a great gal!!! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Hopefully everyone expecting to hear from me will have heard from me within a day or two. *happy finished-with-fic dansen* ♥ Current Mood: relieved | | Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 | | 4:45 pm |
THE ART OF WIN: 58 GOODNESS FOR ALL (NSFW - WOOT!!)
There are many fine artists in the Saiyuki community. Many. For some reason, while fic writers tend to skew toward the 58, artists tend to skew toward the 53. I get that 53 is aesthetically pleasing I also think that's about all it has going for it. *ducks tomatoes* But this isn't about that. We're all friends no matter who we ship. What this is about is the fact that my very favorite Saiyuki artist after Minekura-sensei herself, error256, did something lovely for me today, even though her heart beats strong and true for 53. And what she did is beautiful and wonderful and really, really not safe for work in any way. But you can look at it if you haven't already. It is here: http://error256.livejournal.com/57382.htmlEnjoy. God knows I did (and do, and will). EDIT: FOR THOSE OF YOU NOT IN THE KNOW, THIS IS HOMOEROTIC ART. IF YOU DON'T WANNA SEE PRETTY BOYS GETTING VERY INTIMATE WITH ONE ANOTHER, DON'T CLICK. Current Mood: ecstatic | | Friday, July 17th, 2009 | | 11:13 am |
FILM REC: "VERY YOUNG GIRLS"
I’ve just watched a documentary called “Very Young Girls,” about illegal prostitution in America. It is a movie that I would recommend everyone in the western world watch, regardless of the depressing subject matter. I think it is important for people to know what is going on with these poor girls and to know more about this one example of how slavery exists in this country. ( Read more... )If, as I hope, you are interested in watching “Very Young Girls,” Netflix has it and it is available for instant download, so you can watch it right away on your computer if you so desire. I would be very gratified if you all checked it out and then let me know what you thought! *IMPORTANT: It isn’t all depressing. It has some really, really beautiful and inspiring stories as well!!* Current Mood: infuriated | | Friday, July 10th, 2009 | | 8:11 am |
